Grey water is the used water from the sink and shower. It collects in a tank under the camper and is emptied at a marked disposal point — never in nature or a storm drain.

Where to empty

Empty at a motorhome grey-water drain (gråvann / tømmestasjon) at campsites and service stations. It is usually a drive-over grid or a low drain you position the outlet over. Apps like Park4Night and CamperContact map them.

Never drain grey water in nature, on the roadside, or into a storm drain — even though it is "just" sink and shower water.

Emptying

Step by step

  1. Check the tank level on the control panel inside so you know it needs emptying (or empty as routine before moving on).
  2. Position the camper so the grey-water outlet (underneath, usually toward the rear) is directly over the drain grid.
  3. Locate the drain valve. It is a lever, gate valve, or pull/twist cap on the outlet pipe under the camper.
  4. Open the valve and let the tank drain completely. It empties by gravity, so give it a moment.
  5. Rinse if needed: a little clean water down the sink helps flush out food bits and keeps odours down.
  6. Close the valve firmly again — driving with an open grey valve will dump water on the road.

Use the sink strainer and scrape plates into the bin first. Food scraps and grease in the grey tank cause smells and blockages.

In winter, keep the grey valve closed when parked or it can freeze open — and empty regularly so the tank does not freeze solid.
